“Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate, and eternal form.”

About This Blog

I know, "it's easy and doesn't hurt" sounds simplistic. But it is, in fact, the underlying concept of piano technique that I think is of utmost importance. Consider this: How can someone make sublime music if there is a great struggle ensuing? How can we even continue to play if there is pain? Difficulty and pain are red flags. I plant these in the terrain of the mind as warning signs, indications that more study is needed.

The great beauty of our work at the keyboard is that there is no mystery regarding piano technique. Let that sink in. There is no mystery. There are always answers; there are always solutions to problems. Here in this blog we'll consider principles of an efficient and healthy approach to piano technique. Topics will vary depending on the needs of my private students. But I offer it all in the interest of helping everyone make music with ease and comfort.

Here you will find articles and video demonstrations on problem solving in repertoire ranging from early intermediate to advanced levels. From time to time there will be recommendations and reviews on materials I find useful.
