About Me

I have appeared often as piano soloist, chamber musician and collaborative artist, performing in all 48 of the contiguous United States, across Canada and in many of Europe’s important concert centers from London to Moscow, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the White House, Vienna’s Musikverein, Berlin’s Hochschule and Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. I have performed in live radio broadcasts over WNYC (New York), RIAS (Berlin), SFB (Berlin) and stations in Zurich and Bern and with such artists as David Shifrin, Hermann Baumann, Eugenia Zuckerman, Leona Mitchell, Clamma Dale and Christiane Edinger. Festival participation includes performances in the Great Performers at Lincoln Center series, the Berlin Festival, the Vienna Festival, Tage Neue Musik (Bonn), Marlboro and the Newport Festival.

Graduating cum laude from the University of Southern California (Bach. of Mus.), where I was a scholarship student, I received a Naumberg scholarship to play double bass at the Juilliard School (M.S.), during which time I performed in the American Symphony with Leopold Stokowski and in the Marlboro Festival Orchestra with Pablo Casals (Columbia Records). It was also during this time that I made my New York recital debut at Carnegie Recital Hall as a pianist with violinist Christiane Edinger. Later I studied piano on a German government grant at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, completed a doctorate in piano at the University of Arizona and for 13 years taught graduate and undergraduate piano at the University of Texas at El Paso, where I was a tenured professor.

My principal piano teachers include Muriel Kerr, Jacob Gimpel and John Crown in Los Angeles, Gerhard Puchelt in Berlin, Nicholas Zumbro at the University of Arizona, and most particularly, Edna Golandsky in New York. I am well versed in Dorothy Taubman’s research on piano technique, which I learned from her and her associate, Golandsky. I now teach piano privately in Cathedral City, next door to Palm Springs, California.

For many years painting has been an additional passion of mine. Soon I will have posted at my website some of my work.
